Since our inception in 1983, Carolina Sunshine for Children has granted over 750 wishes for children with uncertain futures. Some of the wishes recently granted by our organization include shopping sprees, cruises, computer equipment, home entertainment centers, swing sets, musical instruments, bedroom furniture, swimming pools, family vacations to Disney and New York, and tickets to professional football games. The smile on a child's face when their wish is granted is a most wonderful sight to behold.
The Board of Carolina Sunshine enjoys not only granting wishes to children with life threatening illnesses but also enjoys serving those who care for these children on a daily basis. As a Board, one of our favorite activities is hosting a Pasta Dinner at Camp Kemo. Camp Kemo is a one week long camp offering many fun-filled activities for children with cancer. The camp is held at Camp Kinard, near Batesburg-Leesville, and staffed by wonderful energetic volunteers. The Carolina Sunshine Board members prepare a home cooked Italian feast for all the campers and counselors. Although most of the children enjoy "plain" pasta or macaroni and cheese, the counselors enjoy homemade sauce and meatballs, baked ziti and lasagna. The meal (totally donated and prepared by the Board members) is complete with salad, spumoni ice cream and authentic homemade pizzelles (Italian cookies).
