Edwina Froehlich
Edwina at 2007 Conference

This page was started before Edwina passed away, as a way to collect memories and pictures for her family. The LLLI web site for Edwina is at http://www.llli.org/edwina.html. At the bottom of this page, you can find two sites to see a video of Edwina taken by Elaine Shirron at the recent Michigan Conference. The photo above was taken by Christel Opitz-Lüders, La Leche Liga Deutschland. It can be found on the Pictures Page. Read more about Edwina on the Memories Page.

Also, Scottie Pritchard in Virginia, USA, has created a beautiful picture that you might want to use in Edwina's memory. The picture on it was also created by Christel Opitz-Lüders.

If you have a memory or picture you'd like to share, please send them to Janet Jendron at jjendron@usit.net. Please check out the LLL Alumnae web site.

The following message came on Sunday, June 8 from Pete Froehlich, Edwina's son. Read information about Edwina's Celebration July 12, 2008

Friends,

Edwina passed peacefully at 5 am this morning, June 8, 2008, at Northwest Community hospital in Arlington Heights. Edwina has donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Society, to be studied at the University of Illinois medical center. Her body is not available for us to wake, however, the family plans on having a celebration of her life at a venue in the northwest suburbs, at a time and place still to be determined. If any one has pictures or videos of Edwina you would be willing to supply for her celebration, please communicate to me. All my contact information is listed below.

Thank you for the emails, hospital visits, flowers, cards and messages. Your support was wonderful!   Edwina's spirit continues to live on in her three sons, three daughter-in-laws, and nine grandchildren. We will communicate the arrangements for her CELEBRATION as soon as they are determined, and Edwina's family sincerely hopes you are able to attend.

Edwina was born on January 5th, 1915 in the Bronx, New York.  She had two older sisters, and her father died when she was three. She married my dad in 1948, and her sons were born in 1950, 1953, and 1957 ( I was in womb during the Founding).     She lived in Franklin Park, IL from 1952 until 2002, when she moved to a northwest suburb of Chicago (Inverness, IL) in order to be closer to her family.

From Elaine Shirron, New York, USA

At the recent Michigan Conference, I got a video of Edwina. We were having an enormous group hug. Edwina told us that they always said a specific prayer at the ends of their group hugs, so we all prayed. Here are the words of her prayer, even though I didn't capture the whole thing.

The light of God surrounds us;
The love of God enfolds us;
The power of God protects us;
The presence of God watches over us.
Wherever we are, God is.
And all is well.

Another video can be found online, sent by Cecily Harkins, Washington, USA:

Hello all. I wanted to share with you the video of Rebecca Sato's performance at the LLL Japan conference tribute to Edwina Froehlich. There was a table with photos and messages both for Edwina and for others who had lost loved ones to remember them. It was a beautiful performance of I am a Thousand wings, in English and Japanese, and Rebecca in true LLL style is holding her cute little boy David as she sings.

Check it out here: http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=81LGU6FUIvs and you can also click on the watch in high quality link at the bottom of the video.
